Peer Support Group

The key purpose of this project is to promote emotional wellbeing and good mental health of individuals who are living with or are at risk of developing mental health issues. This project, in partnership with organisations such as Merthyr Mind, Local Health Board and other professionals, provides support for those individuals with Low to medium levels of mental illness, e.g. anxiety, depression, baby blues and general feelings of lowness.

It provides accessible services within the cluster that are friendly, confidential and professional service and in some cases these can be provided at home. A provision of self-help groups / courses are also provided so that individuals can be better equipped to cope and look to improve their own mental health and well-being.

Self Help groups will provide an opportunity for participants to:

  • Build supportive relationships with others
  • Develop their confidence, self-esteem and social networks
  • Engage with wider community activities
  • Find out where they can find any additional or more specialist support that they might need
  • Develop interests that they can pursue independently

Do you suffer with low mood or low to moderate depression? South Cluster Communities First work in partnership with Cwm Taf Mental Health Team to bring self-help courses such as Mindfulness and Stress Control within the community.
