Parents Support Work

This project aims to work with parent / carers of children that have been identified through our Primary School as having high levels of non-attendance or persistent school lateness

Its purpose is to support and assist these parents / carers and children by offering support where issues are likely to or are affecting the child and their performance at school. Working in partnership with the schools the project will aim to create strong links between the school and parents’ ensuring that support is available to remove the barriers that impact on child development and achievement including:

  • Offering 1:1 support to the parents we aim to establish the reasons for non-attendance and offer support in order to overcome these issues
  • Supporting parents in improving the home learning environment
  • Helping parents from poorer families to believe their own actions and efforts can lead to improved outcomes for their child
  • Encouraging family learning and child participation in extracurricular activities.
  • Encouraging parents to take up parenting skills, basic skills and to gain qualifications through community based learning provisions supported by Communities First.

The key purpose of this intervention is to lift these families out of the poverty levels they are in at present and to ensure that they have an increased awareness of the importance of education and access to the existing support that is available. The project will also ensure that existing services have access to families in need in which they are unable to reach at present.
